Who is Discipulus Publius?
In 2010, I was able to upgrade to a new cell phone and chose the Motorola Droid. As the sales associate assisted me in setting up the phone, he asked me for my gmail account. I have never had a gmail account and since I would have to create a totally new account, he told me how to add it to the cell phone once I had set it up. After several failed attempts at trying to use previous email prefixes, it was now time to create a new e-mail address.
With my love of American history, I decided to use something that reflected my interests of the founding and early republic of the United States. It did not take long for me to come up with Discipulus Publius, which literally means “Disciple of Publius” – the pseudonym of John Jay, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton who were the authors of the Federalist Papers.
I am an American historian and currently teach as an adjunct instructor of History at the Henderson Campus of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. I have been teaching at the college/university level since 2004, and before that, taught junior high in Oakdale Junior High School, located in Allen Parish, Louisiana.
Before entrance into Northwestern State University in the pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree, I served for six years in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in April of 1996. It was my military service, the years spent as a youth with the Boy Scouts of America, and my father, who had spent nearly twenty-six years in the Army that created an intense love for this nation.
I completed my Bachelors of Arts in History in 1999 at Northwestern State University of Louisiana with an emphasis in Ancient European History – taking the advice of Thomas Jefferson who personally believed that to correctly understand the United States, one must understand the ancient roots of democracy. In 2004, I completed my Masters of Arts in History from Murray State University with an emphasis in Early American History. I then entered into Southern Illinois University in pursuit of my Ph.D. in U.S. History.
Since 2004, I have taught at Mid Continent University, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, University of Southern Indiana, and now as an adjunct instructor in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s Henderson Campus.
